Talk on James Tissot in aid of Southampton City Art Gallery
Wednesday 26 September 2018

James Tissot: An Artist Who Never Quite Fitted In.

Wednesday 26th September 2018 at 10.30am at Southampton City Art Gallery Lecture Theatre

Speaker: Jenny Leonard

Cost £6. All the proceeds will go to Southampton City Art Gallery to support activities conected with the display of Leonardo's Drawings there next year.

As an artist in Paris & contemporary of the Impressionists, James Tissot was poised for a dazzling career but he experienced an extraordinary fluctuation of favour & rejection. This talk tells of the life of this talented painter, including war, revolution, a mysterious love affair, much Victorian hypocrisy &, finally, an unexpected direction in his old age
